Below are a list of Republican Candidates running for State offices here in the city of Norfolk.
Dr. John Sitka III grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and he is the oldest of eight siblings with four sisters and three brothers. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1974, and came to Norfolk Virginia in 1979. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1994, he went on to work for Maersk Lines Limited in their Government Special Missions Program. He helped rebuild a failing maritime school called Tidewater School of Navigation. The school gained significant success to be reorganized to become Mid-Atlantic Maritime Academy. He served as Vice President of Academic until May of 2015. Dr. Sitka left for Pasadena Texas to help build the San Jacinto College Maritime program and served as the Director for Maritime Credentialing. Dr Sitka holds a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. He currently retired and serves on the Advisory Board to Young Mariners Career Foundation which provides funding and educational opportunities for affected workers to facilitate education as professionals in the maritime and lifesaving trades.

Amy was born in Ohio. She received her B.A. in Political Science and her law degree from the University of Toledo. Her father is a retired police officer and her mother, an immigrant, is a retired pharmacy technician. Amy chose Virginia because she fell in love with the rich history and natural beauty she enjoyed from many happy family vacations here. Amy has experience working as a government contractor, assisting service members and their families, particularly wounded warriors. Amy worked as a public defender in Norfolk on the violent felony team. She is acutely aware of the issues plaguing the criminal justice system and the City of Norfolk. Her experience and insight will be helpful in Richmond. She currently works at Protogyrou Law. Her extensive litigation and jury trial experience gives her an insight few currently have in Richmond. Amy will be a strong advocate for the citizens of Norfolk. Amy is a lifelong conservative who will defend. the rule of law and support a commonsense conservative agenda in Richmond. She lives in Ocean View and is an active member of the Cottage Line Civic League, serves on the board of commissioners for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, is an active member of the James Kent chapter of the American Inns of Court, and serves on committees with the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association. In Richmond, she will continue to be a selfless leader providing real results.

Born in New Haven, CT, Ken is the son of a career Army non-commissioned Officer who was stationed throughout the United States, Italy, and Greece. He completed high school in North Haven, CT and attended Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, ME, graduating in 1983 with an Unlimited Third Mates license and a Naval Reserve Commission. Ken shipped on merchant ships to Central and South America for six months and then transferred to an active reserve commission in the U.S. Navy. He completed 26 years of active duty with the Navy, with assignments in Norfolk, Tampa, Newport, Alaska, and Italy. Upon retirement from the Navy he accepted a Civil Service job with the Navy in Naples, Italy for 9 years. Upon returning to the United States in early 2018, he elected to seek employment in Norfolk, where he had completed 4 sea tours during his Navy career. He was married to his wife Deborah, who was a Naval Nurse at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. They currently have two daughters, Katelyn (30) and Tara (27). Throughout his adult life, Ken has been active in community affairs. He was active in the PTSA of his daughters’ schools, coached youth sports, was on local school advisory boards, taught Catechism, and supported numerous non-profit events/organizations. He is currently active in his local civic league and a number of local business and community organizations. Ken has always followed local and state politics, learning from the good and bad policies/decision making.

Andy Pittman will fight to restore common sense, conservative, community-centered leadership to Norfolk. As a Norfolk native and lifelong resident, Andy understands what matters most to our community. Andy will work hard to keep our neighborhoods safe, make our economy strong, keep parents in charge of their children’s education, and protect our Bay. Andy lives in the heart of Ocean View with his wife, Jessica, and two young children. Andy stayed in the Commonwealth for his education, graduating from Norfolk Christian High School, James Madison University, and Washington & Lee School of Law. Andy has served as an attorney at every level of government – federal, state, and local – including as a law clerk to the U.S. District Court in Norfolk and the Virginia Supreme Court, as well as an Associate City Attorney. He also has extensive experience in private practice as a civil litigator. Andy will use his skills and expertise as a constitutionally conservative attorney to safeguard our liberties and make our city a better place to live, work, and raise our families.
